Walking Weekend, Ross-on-Wye 13th to 15th April 2018

Plans have been made to hold our annual spring walking break near to Ross-on-Wye, Herefordshire. This will be from Friday 13 April until Sunday 15th. The area is very close to the Welsh border, Monmouth, and to the dramatic Wye Valley.

As usual we will provide a choice of walks on the Saturday as well as a shorter one on Sunday.

We have negotiated a group booking rate at Penyard House Hotel in Weston under Penyard, 2 miles outside Ross-on-Wye. http://www.penyardhouse.co.uk . This is a large hotel which can accommodate all our single room requirements. Prices, per night, are: £58 for a double (or twin) room with 2 people sharing and £48 for a single room. Please note that these prices are just for B&B. The hotel has ample private parking. We have booked the evening meal for the group on Saturday evening at the nearby Weston Cross Inn.

To book your accommodation please ring Penyard House on 01989 760716 and state that you are a member of the Leek Ramblers party. You will need to pay a £10 room deposit to the hotel at the time of booking.

Leek Group 20th Birthday celebrations.
The Leek group was formed on the 8th May 1997 and to mark the anniversary, a celebratory function was attended by over 40 members past and present at Horton Village Hall on Sunday the 25th June 2017. We were joined by our special guest, Area Secretary Graham Evans and despite the wet weather a large proportion managed to complete a circular walk to Rudyard Lake, returning to a buffet lunch. We all enjoyed the nostalgic collection of photographs, press articles and specimen walks programmes - one from each of the twenty years. Not to mention the delicious cake baked by Barbara.
Thanks to Geoff the event received superb coverage in the Leek Post and Times, with a whole page devoted to the report along with photos.
A special note of thanks to all those committee members who helped put together this memorable event.
